July 6th Devotional

Hosea 6:1-6, Hebrews 3

These are both really good readings.  Hosea 6:1-2  “Come, let us return to the Lord.  He has torn us to pieces but he will heal us; he has injured us but he will bind our wounds.  After two days hw will revive us; on the third day he will restore us, that we may live in his presence.  Hebrews 3:7-9  So, the Holy Spirit says: “Today, if you hear his voice, do not harden your hearts as you did in the rebellion, during the time of testing in the desert, where your fathers tested and tried me and for 40 years saw what I did.

God’s word is sometimes not easy to read because it convicts us of what we have done wrong.  We are ashamed and we try to cover things up.   We tell ourselves all sorts of things to make us feel better.  But we can only feel better after we have ackowledged our sins, have turned from our ways, and have asked for forgivness and known that God will grant it that the healing will begin.  Just like teenagers who rebell and get mad at their parents who punish them for what they did wrong, we also harden our hearts to God when he reveals our sin to us and punishes us.  But only if we ask God to come into our hearts and guide us can our heart be softened.  The more time we spend in the word and with God, the more he can heal us and guide us in the way we should go.
