July 2nd Devotional

Psalms 115; Isaiah 5:15-16; Jude

The Scrpiture that stood out to me today was Psalms 115:8 Those who make them (idols of silver and gold) will be like them (unable to speak, see, smell, feel, walk or talk), and so will all who trust in them. Note: words in parentheses are mine as from the verses before this one to help you understand what the verse was talking about.

The idols and statures (or other things that we worship) are basically frozen in time-they cannot do anything or change. We may not be able to see God or know exactly what he looks like, but we know that he is there and that he speaks and we know that he can change things.

We need to trust in God even when we feel he is not with us, as we believe in him he will show us more and more of who he is and what he is doing for us.

Lord, I pray that the these teens will no longer follow idols that cannot help them, but will turn to you in times of need.

Another Scripture that stood out was: Jude 1:4  …They are godless men, who change the grace of our God into a license for immorality and deny Jesus Christ our only Sovereign and Lord.

Godless men take what they want from the Scriptures.  They believe that Jesus forgives their sins, but they don’t change their ways and continue to sin over and over again.

If we have sinned and done wrong and repent anf go to Jesus for forgiveness we also need to be careful not to commit that sin again.  If we do we are directly disobeying God.

Lord, I pray that the lessons you teach us about the sins we commit will sink deep within us and that we will learn from our sins.
